Chronology


1951      Born in Sevilla, Spain.

1968     Moved to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.

              First contact with Gran Canaria’s art world through Luján Pérez School.

1969     Co-founder of the Independent Theatre Group LA ZAPATILLA, which he worked until 1973, performing in neighborhoods, streets, towns and
              Colleges of the Canary Islands.

1974     First solo shows. Desde el hombre para el hombre,  Conca gallery, La Laguna, Tenerife. Tahor gallery, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. El Almacén
              gallery, Arrecife, Lanzarote. See Solo and Group Shows.

1975     Lived and worked in Melenara beach, Telde, Gran Canaria.

              Cofounder of UG MOTYVACYONES, a performance group with shows at coffee shops, theaters, Colleges, Art Galleries, and UGENTE its own
              space, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

              Helped create the scenery for the musical group Los Canarios for its performances Cycles on the island of Gran Canaria.

              Teacher of body language and theater for children at EGB Calvo Sotelo School of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

1976     Experience Haga con ella lo que quiera (Do with it what you want). Manageable mobiles (cardboard, paper, pigment and glue). Balos Gallery,
              Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. With the participation of the writer Ángel Sánchez, presented his book of visual poetry Logística del tapir, and
              the philosopher Juan Ezequiel Morales, with the text Consideraciones apriorísticas.

              Promoted and assisted in the creation of the magazine 27, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

              Attended three courses of music theory and two cello courses at the conservatory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

              Began with the technique of intaglio etching in the workshop of Félix J. Bordes.

              Collaborated in the design and realization of the publication La Factoría, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

1977     Designed the cover of the book Loor del cobarde audaz, by the poet Gustavo Calviño. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

1981      Became interested in botany and beekeeping, which he started with the botanist Salvador Martínez. 

              Moved his residence and workshop to San Miguel valley, Valsequillo, Gran Canaria.

              Designed and illustrated the book La fiesta, by Juan Ezequiel Morales. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

1982     Contributed to Pensamiento y expresión Congress. Arrecife de Lanzarote.

              Collaborated in the book Guías raras y completas de territorios y habitantes de España. El Hierro, by Roberto Godoy, Madrid.

1986     Assistant to the artist Jordi Teixidor in workshop IV Taller de Arte Actual. Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

              Moved his residence and workshop to San Felipe, Sta. Mª de Guía, Gran Canaria, where he lives and works here after. 

1987     Assisted in the implementation of the proposal El Parque de la Música, issued by a multidisciplinary team, coordinated by the architect José M.
              Aceytuno and the musician José Carlos Suárez. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

              Updated courses for art teachers of EGB at Valsequillo, Gáldar and La Aldea. Isla de Gran Canaria.

              Designsed the magazine Revista del Pensamiento for the editorial Heca. S.R.C.

1990     Created Obra Solar large sculptures and murals with high temperature ceramics with the help of the ceramist Antonio Báez.

1993     Initiated the 1º Encuentro de artistas (coexistence of painters, writers, photographers and musicians) in the farm Finca de Ossorio, Gran
             Canaria.

1994     Created the outer wall of Herrera-Cerpa Optical. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the help of the ceramist Antonio Báez.

              Curator of the show Anastomosis. Encuentro multidisciplinar de creadores. Canary Islands Government, Directorate General of Culture.
              Shows at La Regengta, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. La Granja, Sta. Cruz de Tenerife. Casa de la Cultura Fuerteventura. Castillo de San José
              Lanzarote.

1996     Digital cataloging of the complete art work under the direction of mathematician Víctor Espino Santana. 

              Winner of the Absolut Las Palmas competition, installation for the Pub Monte 70. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

1997     Sculpture project for the museum of salt of Bañaderos. Arucas.

              Mural project for the facade of the company Herbania. Arinaga.

1998     Created the Melted bronze sculptures of Betilos serie.

1999     Became the Professor of intaglio etching in Luján Pérez School until 2010.

              Attended the printmaking workshop taught by Paco Aguilar in the Center Andaluz del Arte Seriado. Alcalá la Real, Jaén.

              Attended the photoetching workshop taught by Julio León in the printmaking workshop of Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

              Collaborated in the installation of the show Proyecto Guiniguada. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

              Member of AICAV (Canary Islands Association of Visual Artists).

2000     Homenaje al siglo XXI. Ornamental obelisk. Group show of monumental obelisks. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

2001     Began with electro-etching at the Ateljé Larsen in Helsingborg, Sweden.

2002     Set up the first electro-etching workshop in the Canary Islands. Spain.

              Attended the workshop of lithography on alumminium taught by Joan Oliver, in the printmaking workshop of Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

2003     Created the mural of La piel de Astrea for the courts building of Güimar, Tenerife. Nimo y Román architects.

              Taught the 1st course of  electro-etching in his workshop de San Felipe, Sta. Mª de Guía, Las Palmas G.C.

2004     Taught the 2nd course of  electro-etching in his workshop de San Felipe, Sta. Mª de Guía, Las Palmas G.C.

              Lectured on El grabado electrolítico, una técnica para el siglo XXI, at the printmaking workshop of Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

2005     Attended the workshop and nontoxic etching on photopolymer film taught by Paco Mora, in the Center Murciano de Arte gráfico El
              Jardinico, Murcia. During the course, he gave the lecture El grabado electrolítico, una técnica para el siglo XXI, and made some demostratios of
              electro-etching with nontoxic resists.

              Lecture of El grabado electrolítico, una técnica para el siglo XXI. In the College of Fine Arts of Barcelona University.

              Showed PornEros, a folder of etching in the international graphic fair Estampa 2005. Maes gallery. Madrid. Durring the fair he gave a leacture
              El grabado electrolítico, una técnica para el siglo XXI.

2006 ­    Published the article Grabado electrolítico -una técnica de grabado no tóxico, for the first Spanish graphic magazine, Grabado y Edición,
              Madrid.

             Taught a course of Electro-etching, a non-toxic process for the first time in Spain. Graphic art Center El Jardinico. Caravaca, Murcia.

              From 2006 until today, Crujera has given many lectures, workshops, and presentations at conferences, art schools and universities. Under his
             direction, several electrolytic etching units have been installed in workshops in Spain and Mexico, where he has given courses on etching with

              Made the video 3KM for I Bienal de Arquitectura, Arte y Paisaje de Canarias. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

2007 ­    Became the President of AICAV (Canary Islands Association of Visual Artists) (until 2014)

2008     Published in Spanish the handbook Manual del Grabado Electrolítico - no tóxico. Spain. Presentated the book by Enrique González, director and
              editor of the magazine Grabado y Edición, during the international graphic fair Estampa 2008. Madrid.

2009     Took part in Encuentro Internacional de Grabado  ‘notóxico 09’. Monterrey, Nuevo León. México.

2011       His studio, located in a natural environment of the northern coast of the island of Gran Canaria (Spain), is specialized in the non-toxic process
              of electro-etching. He offers a program of residency for artists, who stay within this natural environment perfect for reflection and creativity.
              The first resident artist was Luvier Casali, who received a grant from the Paragray Ministry of Culture. Artists from Spain, Mexico, Poland,
              England and USA have stayed as residents. See section Residency of this site.

2012     Attended the course of etching on photopolimer plates taught by Juan Lara. elmonodelatinta. Madrid.

2013    Published the English eddition of Electro-etching handbook -a safe, non toxic approachHamalgama Editorial. Spain.

2014    Wrote, with Bob Perkin, the article The basis of Elctro-etching – a simplified explanation.
